Alicante Golf was officially opened on 23 January 1998 in a ceremony led by its designer, Severiano Ballesteros, and attended by the President of the Spanish Golf Federation at the time, Emma Villacieros.

In December 2001, the Club hosted the Levante Cup, a professional tournament with a team of pros from the Valencia Region. A very young Sergio García (crouching 2nd from left) and José Manuel Lara (standing 4th from left) were part of that team.

Both the PGA and the Qualifying School of the Peugeot Tour have selected this course as the venue for important competitions. After hosting the PGA Championship of Spain in 2002 and 2003, Alicante Golf was confirmed as a host of major professional tournaments with the hosting of the Grand Final of the Peugeot Tour of Spain in 2004, won by Santi Luna, a European Tour player.

The course record of 62 was established by Pepin Rivero – a member of the European Ryder Cup team in 1985 and 1987 - during Day 1 of the PGA Championship of Spain in 2003.
