Environmental Commitment
Environmental Commitment
At Alicante Golf we are aware of the significance of the environment for society and for our surroundings, and so we take great care to maintain and preserve the course in a sustainable and environmentally-friendly way.

This firm commitment is set out in our Quality and Environmental Policy, which details the basic principles that guide how we design our actions and define our specific objectives for improving our positive contribution to the environment:
-
Nature conservation: our lakes provide a unique opportunity for attracting native plant and animal species, especially water birds, which are encouraged to use our nesting sites. In the urban surroundings where Alicante Golf is based, our complex is a valuable green space for the city and an ecological haven that would be difficult to replace.
-
Water supply management: golf courses no longer present a risk due to their water consumption, in fact they are an opportunity for making use of treated water that would not be suitable for other purposes. Alicante Golf is setting an example of good management and use of the treated water from the Monte Orgegia waste water treatment plant. Latest generation tools are used to control watering on the course, enabling us to make better use of the water available and reduce consumption.
-
Grass and pest control: aimed at maintaining healthy lawns that are well-adapted to the area's prevailing weather conditions and to the use of low quality sprinkling water out on the course. Only fertilizers and plant health products with low environmental impact are used.
-
Waste management: we make a special effort to ensure a minimal amount of waste is produced on site and that it is managed properly, by implementing programmes that involve users and staff alike.
-
Energy efficiency: energy has become a limited resource and this is why we make a point of choosing low-energy equipment for supplying electrical power and lighting as well as for machinery and golf buggies.
-
Communication and awareness: efforts to obtain positive results in any environmental management scheme must come from all those concerned, by involving users, staff and residents at the course. The only way of guaranteeing that all the measures we take are successful is by getting the whole community to work together. This is why we encourage everyone to help in a proactive way.
Such an ambitious environmental management scheme has to be certified by an independent body to ensure that it is safe and reliable. To date, Alicante Golf is the only golf course to hold the Q-Plus certification for golf courses, Excellent Standard, and it also holds ISO 14001 environmental certification, currently in the process of being renewed.
Because of its urban location, it might seem difficult to think of Alicante Golf course as a "natural ecosystem", but thanks to many years of hard work, it has become a hugely valuable eco resource, both for its users and for the city of Alicante.
